Mary Ritter

​Artist Statement 

​

As a ten year member of Studio Art Quilts Alliance (SAQA) and Professional Art Quilts Association (PAQA), Mixed Media/textiles artist, Mary A Ritter, has been an experienced fulltime artist ever since she retired from her career in education. Mary branched out, after stitching for most of her lift by hand and machine, learning how to add the richness of paint, dye, ink, stenciling, ceramics and metallics to her efforts. She continues to add techniques from the never-ending choices abounding in the art community. Earning a Master's of Arts in education with a specialty in reading and technology, Mary retired to enjoy the pursuit of artistic expression. Mary is self-taught in the arts with much research and workshop/retreat learning from well-known practitioners. her choice of topics is sparked by travel aborad and memoirs of home. Her art style can be impressionism, realism, Folk Art or whimsical.

Mary has exhibited at Page-Walker Art Center, Cary NC; Cape Fear Gallery, Fayetteville, NC, winning a Grand Prize in 2023; MN Quilt Show, Minneapolis, MN; Emerald Art Center, Springfield OR; Woman Made Gallery, Chicago, IL; Sacred Threads Traveling and Standing Exhibit, Reston, VA; Virginia Quilt Museum, Harrisonburg, VA; Petersburg Area Art League, Petersburg, VA,, University Chicago Hospital, Chicago IL - along with local businesses - The Mayton, Pro's Epicurean Market and Grill, Wake Med Reflections, and the Glenaire CCRC Hallway exhibits.

She is a member of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates); PAQA-South (Professional Art Quilters Alliance-South); Fine Arts League, Cary, NC, and especially enjoys learning from her local collection of artists in Carolina Preserve.
