My love for photography started when I served in the U.S. Army in the early 1970's in the era of film and darkroom B&W processing. At that time, it seemed like magic to develop film and then transform wet bland paper into vibrant images. With my switch to digital in 2004, I can now enjoy this magical process in the digital darkroom.
I especially love nature and landscape photography because my studio is the great outdoors. I enjoy the artistic and technical challenges required to transform nature’s beauty into stunning images. I travel to photograph and photograph to travel. Photography also allows me to enjoy the natural diversity in our world.
Subject, time, location and composition are the key ingredients in photography. I strive for uniqueness in at least three elements in each of my photos whether an iconic mill or a majestic waterfall, the brilliant light of the magical hours of sunrise or sunset, or the stunning capture of wildlife.
I retired in 2008 after a 30+ year engineering career and now can deviote more time and energy to photography. My career involved 25 years in product development with a great company called John Deere and several shorter stints as an engineering professor at Texas A&M University and a engineering department head at North Carolina State University.
