Felting is the process of compressing fibers into a non-woven fabric. The art of feltmaking is the creation of objects during the felting process. Cynthia creates 2D and 3D art objects as well as wearables including hats and scarves, most commonly from sheep’s wool, mohair, angora, alpaca and silk.
Cynthia has studied with local, national, and international feltmakers and is a member of several felting guilds and arts organizations. Her work has been juried into both textile shows and fine arts shows and won several awards including 1st place in the Durham Arts Guild’s 55th Annual Juried Show. Along with Cary Gallery of Artists, Cynthia’s work can be seen seasonally at Nofo at the Pig in Raleigh, Gilded Palette in Wake Forest, Green Hill Center for Art in Greensboro well as at festivals throughout the fall.
Cynthia enjoys any opportunity to demonstrate or teach felting and believes creating public awareness of the process and sharing the potential of this medium are ongoing opportunities.
